Florida Wedding!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 28, 2008 by bobgsmith

Last weekend, Linda and traveled up to Brooksville, Florida to see my mother.  She lives about 5 hours north of us.  She is doing well and loves the nursing home she is in.  Her room has a view of a golf course and while she doesn’t understand the game she loves to watch the golfers.  We spent time with my sister and brother-in-law.

Then we drove south for an hour to Clearwater, Fl to perform a wedding for Dave Breen & Vanessa Isaacs.Cv6813

Dave and Vanessa attend our former church in Indiana but she wanted a ‘beach’ wedding and she got one. I think I was the only one wearing shoes.

She was a beautiful bride and the setting was magnificent.  What a great joy it was to share their special day.

Florida Time!

New6157 Linda and I took a day off to check out some of the beautiful scenery of south Florida.  We went down to Key Largo and Islamarado.  We spent the day on the beach, ate dinner on the beach while listening to some wonderful music, an spent more time on the beach.New6163

It was our first overnighter and we enjoyed to time away.

Of course we got tooooooo much sun and turned bright red to prove it.

I guess we still have some things to learn about Florida. New6170

Why is time sitting on the beach with the waves gently caressing the shore and the cool breeze with a taste of saltiness seems to bring a sense of peace, rest, and relaxation.

Perhaps because it’s just a little easier to see our Creator!

We enjoyed our time with the Creator and His creation.

Immersed in Spanish!

Raul_moreraLast night was a wonderful evening of Spanish language, music, and culture.  Two of our worship band members played at Casa Panza Restaurant. True to the culture they were supposed to start at 9:30 pm and but didn’t really start until about 10:30 pm. Raul plays the drums for us and Sugeily the congas. Yaharis, who also attends the church, Alex & Erin Diaz, and Erin’s parents, Robert & Lori also joined the festivities.
After my lesson on how to use my Mac, Linda and I headed to the restaurant. While we couldn’t understand the songs, we certainly enjoyed and recognized their talent. While not Christ-followers yet, they attend most Sundays and listen to our Spanish translation.
Via con dais! (I think)

GUESTS!!!!!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 3, 2008 by bobgsmith

Teresa_lindaLiving in South Florida has lots of perks.  The weather has been wonderful.  As our friends in Indiana and Ohio call and tells us of floods, winter storms, snow, ice, etc., we sit here each day and look out over the palm trees and enjoy the lakeview.

Another perk is having lots of guests.  We have enjoyed each and everyone of them.  The latest is Jeff & Teresa Scott from Traders Point in Indy.   Jeff and I served on the Missions Team together and Linda and Teresa were in a Bible study together. We have really enjoyed having our friends visit.

We still have plenty of openings for guests.  Lots of them in July & August.       Ya’ll come now!

Growing Church

Baptism Last Sunday was my first time to share the message at the Pursuit.  It was a little different having someone interpret my message into Spanish as I spoke.  My message was Effective not Obnoxious.  The text was Acts 8:26 which is the story of Philip and the Ethiopian.  The idea was how to share our faith and be effective.

After to church we went to the Rios’ home and I was privileged to immerse Ariecelis Escobar.  She is in our Community Group and loves the Lord and His word.  She gave a wonderful testimony about coming to the Pursuit, our following up on her, and how she decided to be baptized.Hug

Much like the Ethiopian Eunuch she went on her way rejoicing.

This is why we are here and I have to admit – I went on my way rejoicing also.

Happy Birthday – Ariecelis!
