We had a great time at the conference this year.  Honestly, Linda and I decided to just work the conference and serve our fellow church planters in that way.
elephant-barOne of the highlights was dinner with many folks from our church.  They did a GREAT job translating the messages into Spanish and setting up the equipment in various rooms.   Better yet – they are FUN to be with.

Ownership!

I recieved the following email from one of the ladies who attends the Friday Night Bible Study that I co-lead.    It made me  ’ jump for joy.’

 Hi

Not to jump the gun but have you given any thoughts to “refreshments”? Is there storage space available in the room?
The easiest would be cookies and soda and or ice tea. Is there ice available? There is an Entermanns outlet bakery on Pembroke Road  near the turnpike – I can phone and see if  Kosher cookies  are available. ( you did mention Kosher was necessary). I would be glad to drive over and pick them up. Does the synagogue supply any paper goods i.e. cups, plates napkins?
Have a wonderful day
Joan
I’m happy that we don’t meet for three weeks and she is already taking ownership of the “Hospitality Team.”   We just mentioned the need in our bible study and she volunteered.  Now she is committing herself to the task.  I’m happy because I like the refreshments.

Manischewitz!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 16, 2009 by bobgsmith

Linda and I had the privilege of joining a congregation near Century Village in their Seder service.  It was steeped in Old Testament teaching and Jewish tradition.  We had a very nice evening and met some new friends. dscn0827 It was held in a local banquet hall .

However, I have to admit that some of the foods were not my favorite.  What the Jewish people see in gefilte fish  and chopped liver is beyond me.   And was the horseradish HOT!

But I did like the wine and the many toasts. dscn0829

I have a lot to learn about the Jewish customs of Passover.  But the Manischewitz made it more fun!

It certainly made the dancing easier.

“What’s the buzz………..”

Posted in Uncategorized on April 8, 2009 by bobgsmith

200px-jcsuperstarfilmcover1Some of you may remember the musical, “Jesus Christ SUPERSTAR.”  One of the songs featured was entitled, “What’s the buzz…?”  as the crowd discussed who this Jesus was.

Well, the Pursuit @ Century Village is the buzz here.  A couple days ago a pastor from another church emailed me and asked if I would visit his aunt, who lives in CV, and invite her to attend our services.

A completed Jewish lady who attends one of our Bible Studies introduce us to a lady who wide open to God and just needs someone to lead her.

We are attending a Seder feast on Thursday at a Messianic congregation.   The last time we attended we met a couple who have been praying for 10 years for a church to open in CV.

God is at work!  Join us in prayer for May 13th – our Launch Wednesday.

WAIT ON THE LORD!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 2, 2009 by bobgsmith
Dear Friends, Family, & Supporters,

For many months, I have been praying over Psalms 27: 13, “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  14, Wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord!”

Waiting has never been my strong suit. Today, our wait is over.  The Conservative Synagogue Board has agreed to allow us to rent space in their building.  We will meet in a part of their fellowship hall that can hold about 125.  While we have spent months thinking about starting the church – there is a lot to be done now that we have a definate location.  dscn0810

The Pursuit staff spent several hours last Tuesday working on some of the multitude of details in starting a second campus.

What an exciting meeting that was!!

Name: The Pursuit @ Century Village
Starting date:  Wednesday ,May 13th, at 2 pm

It’s Never Easy!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 1, 2009 by bobgsmith

Last Thursday, Linda and I were as happy as “kids in a candy shop.”  If you read my blog then you learned that we had verbal approval from the President of the Century Pines Jewish Center, the conservative synagogue, to hold services there.  Then on Friday, I was told that the Board must vote on our meeting there, this Thursday morning.  PLEASE PRAY!

I have to be honest and share that my heart skipped a beat when I heard that.  While the President of the Board and the Rabbi are in favor of our proposal, who knows what the Board will say.

What a roller coaster ride!  (I don’t enjoy this ride anymore than I do the ones at Kings Island.)

Yet this all about God’s timing.  From almost day one, Linda and I were ready to plant our campus of  The Pursuit.    But we have been held at bay.  WHY?

My read is that God has allowed us this time to make the necessary relationships needed to plant our campus.   While the administrator at Century couldn’t let us meet there due to the by-laws, she said some very complimentary comments to one of the board members at the synagogue.   I believe that she is on our side.  During our months in Century Village, “We have tried to become all things to all men in order to win some.”   We have come to love our Jewish brothers, the Latinos and evan the old folks here (cause we look like them.)

How does The Pursuit @ Century Village sound to you?

As Paul Harvey used to say, “And now for the rest of the story,” on Thursday.
