Passports in hand!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 17, 2009 by bobgsmith

Synagogue3761Matt & Janie left this morning to fly to Taiwan to pick up baby Chase.   They were pumped!  As you can see, they took a few things with them.

Synagogue3764Here they are with their passports in hand about to go into the terminal.  They are still waiting on the final piece of paperwork.  Please pray that it comes through and all the details will fall in place.   Welcome Chase!

A good laugh!

I was looking through some of my photo’s and found these pictures.  Linda and I were about 25.  We were doing a civic theatre production of 1776.  Linda was Abigal Jefferson and I was Rev. Witherspoon (talk about type casting.)

Well, it was good  for a laugh.

Elle!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 3, 2009 by bobgsmith

It was our first service of the Pursuit @ Century Village.  Linda and I had prayed for this moment for over a year.  I can’t begin to explain God’s timing but I’m learning to accept it.

Ellie is the taller lady on the left.  While her husband was in the hospital, a nurse began to share the Lord with her.  She had walked with the Lord early in her life but had gotten away from that walk.

She read about our service and wanted to attend.  But she couldn’t leave her husband. The day before the our service, her husband was put on 24 hour hospice care.  She was able to attend and invited Jesus back into her life.  The next Wednesday, she wasn’t at our service.  When I called, her husband had died that day.  We are ministering to her during this time .

God’s timing – gotta Love it!

Partee!

All it takes to get a crowd in South Florida is the word, “Partee!”  After church on Sunday the Mehaffeys hosted a party to welcome and introduce the new interns for the summer.  They will working with Kid’s City on Sunday morning and starting a youth group on Sunday evening.  Hannah is the blond on the right.  Linda and I have know her since the day she was born.  What fun to work with her now.

Pursuit @ Century Village Launch

Posted in Uncategorized on May 15, 2009 by bobgsmith

IMG_4785 On May 13th, we launched with 28 people attending the first service.  Linda lead some wonderful old hymns and I gave the message.

You can see our video projection on the wall.

Over half the folks are people we didn’t know. About 10 others said they will attend this coming week.

The lady on the right is Anita from the Pursuit @ Pembroke Pines.  She and her husband came over to help us launch.

What a blessing!

Walk in theri steps!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 13, 2009 by bobgsmith

As a young Christian I learned a poem that begins like this:

Pray don’t find fault – with the man who limps or stumbles along the road,

Unless you have wore the shoes he wears or struggled beneath his load.

As I have been preparing the message and slides this week for the service at Century, it’s really made me appreciate the effort that Matt & Alex put into the services at Pembroke Pines.

I’m blessed to work with these two men of God.  Thanks brothers!

Pursuit @ Century Village

This morning we finished putting up 177 fliers for the church service this week.  Had a few volunteers from the Pursuit @ Pembroke Pines.  One of them was Jaime Lopez.   I love Jaime!  He is growing in the Lord ‘like a weed’.   He was immersed last year and then spent the summer in Columbia.  On Thursday of this week, he helped Alex install our dvd projector on the ceiling of our worship center.  He is a wonderful man and a great family man.  He told me today, “I just love the Pursuit!”Synagogue3688

Of course my greatest support and helper was Linda!  She is a blessing.

Today I plotted out all of Century Village and six of us put up fliers on the bulletin boards of about 1/2 of the buildings in the complex.  Hope to finish that up on Saturday.

Have to get everything ready for the bulletins for next Wednesday to the Admin Ad tomorrow so she will have them ready. Oh yeah, got to get grape juice.

Got our new business cards and logo.  I like it.

Yesterday, we had a run through for our first service on May 13th.   As you can see I’m ready, Linda’s ready and the room is ready. We’d like to ask you to join us in prayer:

1.  That people who to need to find their way back to God would attend.

2.  That all the ‘details’  would go smoothly.

3. That we raise up a group of volunteers.

4. For Century Pines Jewish Center who has allowed us to meet in their synagogue.

You got to wonder?

swallowing_bubble_gum Is this where the expression, “Blow it out your rear” came from?Or perhaps the inspiration for the song, “Tiny Bubbles.”  I saw this and just had to laugh out loud.
